After a beautiful summer in Malmesbury, cooler weather is on its way as we approach autumn and its stunning displays of colour at Westonbirt arboretum.
At the end of July, Malmesbury hosted the WOMAD festival for the 8th year running, welcoming musicians from around the world. For three days, there was music and food to suit all tastes in Charlton Park Estate. During August and September the Malmesbury carnival offered a large variety of activities for all ages including the procession, open gardens and other events. One of our course participants, Bruno, took full immersion to the next level when he took part in the half marathon as part of "Team Abbey" – see photo.
On August 5th, Alex and Sarah celebrated their first year as Directors of Abbey Communication with champagne for all at coffee break – see photo. Since August 2013, Abbey Communication has trained participants in Business English from Japan, France, Belgium, Spain and Germany. It is always a pleasure to support them as they grow in confidence and fluency, following tailor-made courses of between one and six weeks. They regularly express surprise at the quality of the food served in our pubs and restaurants, the good weather and the friendliness of the people they meet. In order to respond to the needs of course participants who work in multi-cultural teams, our trainer development continues in the autumn with a course on inter-cultural awareness and international communication.
September saw a celebratory visit to the Abbey from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and, in October, we are looking forward to both another annual Philosophy festival and a BBC History weekend. So, we are delighted to be continuing the tradition of education and learning which has taken place in Malmesbury over the centuries!
